TSM96 : The Joy of Ageing

I’ve always envied people who were older than me and as I approach 50, I feel a real sense of excitement about where I’m at in life and what is to come. In this monologue I reflect on ageing, by exploring :

  • The negative baggage associated with physical and mental changes
  • Our fears of dying
  • The joy of ageing and old age
  • The importance of accepting ageing
  • The benefits of old age and why it’s worth looking forward to getting older
  • The best and worst kinds of ageing
  • Grumpy phases
  • Transcending the fears associated with ageing and embracing the wonder of getting older
  • Moving through the passage of perpetual grief and growing through resilience
  • The choice we all have about how to age.

You wont find any sympathy or regret in  this monologue.

You may wish to skip the first 23 minutes and my wishing to provide my sick sister with a means to fulfill a lifelong dream. I was having a hard time with her illness and seeing her suffering.

I can’t recommend the writings of Marie De Hennezel, particularly her books on dying and ageing. Unfortunately most of her books are in French but at least two of them are in English.

May you enjoy People of Earth.

  1. Bright,
I have made comments about being the age to be your mom. Well, I take it back. For some reason I thought you were in your 30’s. How funny. I am 54! Aging doesn’t suck when you don’t relate to your age. I have never related to my age and shock myself every time I see myself in a mirror. Thanks for all the posts. Really enjoy you!

    • Hey Darci – thanks for thinking I’m a spring Chicken. Nearly 47, so I’m a little behind you ! I think it’s wonderful you’ve never related to your age because you know how to live. You have that sense of a youthful spirit ! Unfortunately old age has become a thing we now associate with a closed mind and bitterness. But thanks to people like you in 30 years, we’ll have a population of vibrant elderly people ! 😉 Have a wonderful day of getting older ! Bright. ❤ 😉

  2. If perception can change the mind and body then perception can control ageing. us humans have a perception that we will live until we are around 80 and die. Maxim 13 ALL THAT YOU EXPERIENCE SHAPES YOUR PERCEPTION AND YOUR PERCEPTION SHAPES YOUR REALITY. so if we change our perception of time we have space, then the question of how long can i be in space.. 80 1000 2000 10,000 40,000 50,000 years ect, Early on my et friends said i could live an excess of 1000 years.. and that became my perception and my new reality. i was in the shower this morning and i though about living 80 years. and that idea seemed so ridiculous to me i kind of laughed at myself like that’s crazy, I discussed this with a very interesting Et who like to joke about probing and making me feel uncomfortable and likes to make points / teachings among his sense of humor. he says this statement is very accurate. i believe this is why humans die at such a young age.. Lack of awareness and perception
