TSM78 : Perfumery, permutations and combinations in the 5 senses and the material world

Tonight’s monologue involves a short discussion about the subject of perfumery, as a result of a scene I wrote today in one of my novels; and an exploration of the idea that the perceptions that we have, which are informed by the 5 senses – arise from different permutations and combinations which occur in our sensory information. The same permutations and combinations fill the material world. I also wonder at how an increase in the number of senses might increase the permutations and combinations that fill our perception of the material world.

  1. Completly agree whit what you are saying. is one of my later plans to watch this with great gratitute. Thank you again 😉

  2. Good afternoon Bright,
It is 3:33 pm here in the hot muggy state of Texas. You really threw me a curve ball on this post. This one took a lot more thinking, consideration and study than most. But, I enjoyed every minute. I got the basic gist right away but wanted to go deeper.
I found myself looking up number meanings, remembering times when I thought something or someone (whether their person, words or energy) was a very stinky smell but turned out to be the most beneficial interaction of my life. We connect with odors in one of two ways: we either like it or not. If we are forced to remain in an unpleasant smell we usually lose the sensitivity to it and forget it is there.
The modern perfume industry reminds me a lot of corporate religion. Everyone is covered up with a sweet fragrance until someone teaches you discernment and all of the sudden it smells like shit. (Which has very few odor causing compounds (3) by the way, certainly not 50!)
Frank sounds like a master of gentle teaching through giving people what they desire in a way that plants seeds of knowledge without causing separation and inequality.
I would love to know why you chose the dates. What is their significance?
Also, perhaps one of the reasons why the sense of touch is not easily fashioned into a permutation is because it is not as delicate of a sense and is more basic. Given to us while in this physical form mostly as a means of tactile work, (walking, grasping, holding, warning), as we are not physical beings except in this dimension.

On a funnier note: the number 50 in Roman numerals looks like a profile of a nose!

    Love ya,
